DIRECTOR OF PLANT OPERATIONS

Job Summary:

The Director of Plant Operations is a member of the Production Department of Cedarburg Pharmaceuticals, Inc.  It is the responsibility of Production to produce product in accordance with documentation, cGMP procedures and Cedarburg Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Standard Operating Procedures.  This includes but is not limited to laboratory kilo-scale and commercial scale synthesis.  The Director of Plant Operations manages manufacturing operations, supervises manufacturing staff, and is responsible for successful on time completion of all manufacturing projects.  The Director of Plant Operations is responsible for coordinating plant and facilities maintenance, the safety program, and the ordering of materials and supplies for production operations.

Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on the most critical issues and devise a plan to address or overcome complex issues.
  • Thorough familiarity with all aspects of production, good manufacturing practices, scale-up, and validation.
  • Demonstrated independent judgment in selection of methods and techniques for creating solutions to a wide range of challenging chemical processes.
  • Demonstrated ability for launching, overseeing, and carrying out projects in Production.


Impact / Level of Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daily operations of the production facility.   This includes but is not limited to:
    • Production schedules
    • Raw material ordering
    • Staff schedules
    • Operator training
    • Administration of Safety Program
    • Oversight of waste handling
    • Inventory control
  • Responsible for building and production equipment preventative maintenance, cleaning, repairs and upgrades according to procedures and guidelines of Cedarburg Pharmaceuticals, Inc.  
  • Operate the production facility under current Good Manufacturing Practices guidelines (cGMP), to ensure that products produced by Cedarburg Pharmaceuticals, Inc. meet customer and product specifications with on time delivery, which includes:
    • Oversight of operator training and review
    • Reviewing draft MBR’s for thoroughness and compliance with SOPs.
    • Review completed batch records for compliance
    • Data trending and analysis of production records.
    • Implementing corrective actions
  • Assist in planning for upgrades to the production facility by interacting with outside consultants and vendors in the following areas:
    • Establishing the goals for the upgrade or expansion (scope of work)
    • Reviewing and approving proposals, P & IDs, etc.
    • Coordinating the installations with outside contractors
    • Establishment, execution, and review of IQ/OQ protocols
  • Assist in providing input on customer quotations.
  • Assist in establishing and managing the Production Department’s budget and purchases.


Complexity of Interactions:

  • Strong network of research colleagues.  Uses awareness of other projects to suggest or improve own project’s experimental strategy.
  • Effectively mentor less experienced individuals within work group.
  • Interact with senior management and customers regarding project progress and issues
  • Is ultimately responsible to the Chief Executive Officer
